Welcome to Bishop’s Stortford Bridge Section
Come and join us!
Why would you want to join? The club is well established, thriving and active and has a wide range of members and skills. The bridge is played in comfortable, sociable surroundings throughout the year. There is a large private car park just outside the club house. Duplicate is played Friday afternoons in the winter and every Monday evening throughout the year.
Are you Novice / Beginner/ Wishing to Learn ?
You may be a complete novice wishing to learn to play. You may have played other card games but not bridge. Whist, Cribbage and Poker have some similarities but bridge is a little more complex.
We have regular courses of lessons by a registered EBTA bridge teacher. These are usually held in the autumn and winter months in the early evening at the clubhouse. These are open to non-members for a modest fee which is rebated if you subsequently become a social member of the golf club. Once you have learnt we have regular supervised play sessions for beginners/learners.
We are basing our lessons on the new “Fast Track” approach to learning bridge recently launched by EBED (English Bridge Education & Development ), this enables you to learn and play relatively quickly. For more on what learning bridge can be about visit their website on http://www.ebedcio.org.uk/learn.
You can play some Bridge
You may be able to play bridge and wish to improve. Playing duplicate is a great way to improve as you get to see how the hand has been bid and played by others.
We have intermediate sessions to improve your bridge before playing duplicate.
